About Us
Walton Empowers was created in 2020 by co-founders Courtney Wright and Cathy Beddow.
As natives of Walton County, we realized the need for peer support services within our community. Through sharing our lived experiences with substance misuse and mental health challenges, our passions were ignited and motivated us to serve others. Through empowerment, our vision became a reality.
Our mission
To provide recovery support to individuals and families through Advocacy, Training, and Peer Support Services.
Our vision
To cultivate a safe community space that promotes multiple pathways to recovery while reducing the stigma of addiction.
What is a
Peer Recovery Coach?
A Peer Recovery Coach promotes recovery and removes barriers and obstacles to recovery, serving as a personal guide and mentor for people seeking or already in recovery from an addiction to alcohol and or other drugs.
Our Peer Recovery Coaches are Certified Peer Specialists who have found success in the recovery process and seek to help others experiencing a similar situation. We can do this through shared understanding, respect, and mutual empowerment, helping people become and stay engaged in the recovery process and reducing the likelihood of a setback.
The range of activities we engage in every day:
✓ Advocating for people in recovery
✓ Sharing resources and building skills
✓ Building community and relationships
✓ Leading recovery groups
✓ Mentoring and setting goals
